Officers from the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) went to Lyon, France between November 26 and 27 for the debriefing meeting of the INTERPOL joint operation codenamed HAECHI-V. Targeting deception activities, the operation was collaborated by the law enforcement agencies in 40 jurisdictions between July and November this year. The operation was coordinated by Superintendent Lau Kai-pang, who is now seconded to INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France. The operation ended with the arrest of over 5 500 suspects and seizure of more than USD400 million in crime proceeds, among which 2 522 suspects were arrested and over USD62.3 million was seized by the Hong Kong Police Force.
In the meeting, INTERPOL summarised the operation results and explained the relevant crime trend. Superintendent of CCB Lee Wai-See was invited as a guest speaker to share the cooperation initiatives of Anti-Deception Coordination Centre, banks and different stakeholders, and the latest red flag indicators observed in Hong Kong. Officers took this opportunity to exchange ideas on the strategies for tackling deception and cross-boundary cyber-enabled financial crime to consolidate the foundation for future transboundary joint operations.
