The Graduation Ceremony cum Luncheon for the third cohort of the Leadership Institute on Narcotics (L.I.O.N.) was held on December 14, 2024. Commissioner Siu Chak-yee and Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Chow Yat-ming officiated at the ceremony and presented certificates and scholarships to outstanding performers. The distinguished guest Mr Bob Lam gave tips on communication and related skills to the mentees. Renowned artiste Mr Andy Lau sent a special video message to congratulate the graduates.
In addition to workshops, exchange with drug rehabilitees and the leadership training camp, new modules on stress management, digital marketing and production of publicity videos were also introduced. Top performers were even arranged to board a helicopter for a simulated anti-narcotics mission. To enhance mentees’ understanding of national anti-drug approaches and developments, L.I.O.N. organised the Mainland exchange programme again for mentees to have exchange with Shenzhen anti-drug pioneers. As 2024 was the 185th anniversary of Humen’s opium destruction, the mentees visited the Opium War Museum in Humen to inherit the spirit of Humen’s opium destruction. Making their training count, mentees organised innovative anti-drug campaigns at 20 respective secondary schools. The mentees also joined the publicity of the anti-drug promotion truck and established game booths at the large-scale anti-drug and child protection carnival “Let’s T.A.L.K. LOL Party” to promote anti-drug messages to the public.
The third cohort reached over 64 000 members of the public with anti-drug messages in 2024, outperforming the last cohort with more than double the outreach. In appreciation of the mentees’ relentless efforts, L.I.O.N. will arrange a one-week exchange trip to Australia in February for the ten top performers to share their anti-drug experiences with local youths and stakeholders. The fourth cohort of L.I.O.N. has been kicked off in January, aiming to nurture more young anti-drug leaders.
