2024 marks the 180th anniversary of the Hong Kong Police Force. Throughout the year, the Force organised a series of celebratory events under the theme “Safeguarding Our City Beyond 180 Years”, including the National Security Education Day cum Hong Kong Police Force 180th Anniversary Police College Open Day, the Pat Heung Race, the 19th Symposium on Police Studies of the Straits-cum-Hong Kong and Macao and 74 sports and cultural activities, which fully demonstrated the Force’s spirit of “Serving Hong Kong with Honour, Duty and Loyalty”.

National Security Education Day cum Hong Kong Police Force 180th Anniversary Police College Open Day

The open day, which attracted more than 5 000 visitors, was held at the Police College on April 13, 2024 to strengthen the public’s sense of national identity and for them to understand the importance of safeguarding national security.

PH Race

The second PH Race took place at the Junior Police Call Permanent Activity Centre and Integrated Youth Training Camp at Pat Heung (PH) on March 23, 2024, attracting over 400 elites from the Force and various youth groups. The race featured 18 checkpoints incorporated with policing elements to echo with the 180th anniversary of the Force.

The 19th Symposium on Police Studies of Straits-cum-Hong Kong and Macao

Held by the Force between November 5 and 8, 2024 and themed around “Smart Technologies Empowerment and Police Modernisation”, the symposium attracted 174 law enforcement officers, experts and academics from the four jurisdictions to share their insights on how smart technologies could dovetail with police modernisation for enhancing overall governance.

OffBeat Special Edition

A special edition of OffBeat which commemorated the 180th anniversary of the Force was issued in October 2024, featuring exclusive interviews of 18 officers from six major formations, from junior staff to the Commissioner. Despite their diverse backgrounds, the officers shared a common goal of upholding the law and serving the community.

Sports and cultural activities

To celebrate this milestone, 74 sports and cultural activities were held. To facilitate public access to information of events open to the public, a public thematic webpage was set up to show the event details.

Souvenirs

A variety of commemorative souvenirs including calendars, Chinese New Year gift sets, Police model cars, Police action figures, commemorative envelopes and stamp packs were launched.

The successful celebration was made possible by the concerted efforts of all Force members and the involved units, including Police College, Public Relations Wing, Police sports and arts councils, major Formations and Headquarters units. Their meticulous planning and execution of each celebratory event not only showcased the professionalism of the Force, but also embodied unity and good team spirits, adding lustre to the Force’s 180th anniversary commemoration.
