The Police Dog Unit (PDU) held a series of activities in 2024 to celebrate its 75th anniversary. These activities aimed to deepen public understanding of PDU and enhance community connection for preventing and combatting crime collectively.

To deepen the public’s understanding of PDU’s functions and to highlight the stories of the handlers and police dogs before they became partners, PDU produced the microfilm Best Pal with Director Mr Benny Lau, with artiste Mr Moses Chan invited to play a role to introduce the work of PDU in multiple perspectives. The Premiere Carnival was held on November 17, 2024 at the PDU Headquarters, attracting the attendance of around 1 000 citizens. The first public demonstration of the scent discrimination dog was also arranged on the day.

In addition to its daily anti-crime operations and assisting frontline officers with security work at large-scale events in recent years, PDU has been interacting actively with the community to establish police-community relations. On the two festive occasions, namely its 75th anniversary and Christmas, PDU went to various social welfare organisations, including Po Leung Kuk and the Children’s Hospital, to carry out charity care activities for gaining the community’s trust and support in policing work.
