The Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East (KE) held an anti-scam seminar cum inauguration ceremony of Fight Crime Ambassadors among Mainland students in Hong Kong on January 18, attracting participation of around 100 Mainland students studying at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Regional Commander of KE Dr Law Yuet-wing and Mr Fang Lei from the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR officiated at the ceremony.

25 Mainland students were appointed as Fight Crime Ambassadors to take on the responsibility of promoting anti-scam awareness to their peers in HKUST. Moreover, six students received commendation for assisting the Force to intervene scam cases. They had identified peers at risk of falling victim to scams and promptly reported the incidents via the “Hong Kong Drifters Report Room”, leading to successful prevention of fraud. One of the commended students from HKUST shared his personal experience of helping his roommate avoid falling victim to a scam. Two videos on real-life scam cases were shown at the seminar for the students to gain a deeper understanding of the modus operandi of phone scams impersonating officials and the recent human trafficking cases, thereby raising the students’ vigilance.
