The Good Citizen Award (GCA) Presentation Ceremony 2024, jointly organised by the Force and the Fight Crime Committee (FCC) with the support of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on February 23, attracting more than 600 spectators. The theme of the presentation ceremony this year was “Good Citizen - Good Stories - Everywhere”, implying that the stories of good citizen could be found anytime and anywhere in our daily life.

Commissioner Siu Chak-yee, Chairman of HKGCC Ms Chan Sui-kuen and member of FCC Mr Kwok Sze-wai, officiated at the ceremony. In his speech, the Commissioner highlighted that the GCA scheme, now in its 52nd year, had recognised over 4 700 individuals for their courageous acts so far. He called on all sectors of the community to be united, genuine and sincere in preventing and combatting crime, so as to weave a safety net for the community.

The 80 awardees of this year’s GCA were recognised for assisting the Police in preventing and detecting crimes, arresting criminals and protecting lives, while the seven award-winning organisations were commended for their proactive efforts in fulfilling social responsibilities and assisting the Police in supporting anti-deception, crime prevention and crime fighting. Among the winners, the oldest recipient was an 80-year-old retiree who assisted the Police in preventing and solving a fraud case, while the youngest was a 17-year-old secondary school student who helped in the detection of a sexual crime. Meanwhile, the nine recipients of the Good Citizen of the Year Award assisted in rescuing and evacuating over ten residents during the Wah Fung Building fire in April 2024.

In addition to the awards presentation, the ceremony also debuted a new video series titled Hidden Good Citizen, featuring awardees sharing their stories of good citizenship through the elements of clothing, food, housing, and transport. Many artistes, namely Ms Yumi Chung, Mr Archie Sin, young singer Ms Isabella Ng as well as Mr Ben Wong, Mr Mak Cheung-ching, Mr Raymond Cho and Mr Michael Tong from boy band “Hey Brother”, participated in drama and singing performances which aimed to raise the anti-deception awareness of the public in a lighthearted and humorous way. Members of the public can relive the highlights of the ceremony on the Force’s Facebook page.
