HKSOS Trail Run 2025

To celebrate the first anniversary of the HKSOS emergency mobile application and to promote its use among the public, the Information Systems Wing and related organisations held the HKSOS Trail Run 2025 at the Peak on February 16. Over a thousand runners participated in the 10km and 20km cross-country races, in which the 20-kilometer race featured a special Disciplined Services Cup with 15 teams participating in the competition.

Commissioner Siu Chak-yee called on the public to promote HKSOS so as to provide more opportunities for help-seekers being saved so that we could protect lives together.

The cross-country events also attracted deaf and hearing-impaired runners. All proceeds from registration fees were donated to "Silence" for the establishment of the HKSOS Hearing Centre to help more deaf and hearing-impaired people.

HKSOS Emergency Mobile Application

On the first anniversary of its launch, the HKSOS has been downloaded more than 125 000 times. In the meantime, the mobile app has assisted in 56 search and rescue operations, and successfully saved 135 citizens. It has protected more than 50 000 outdoor activities. As long as the user starts the app, the automatic accident detection function will be turned on to locate the injured person. In the past year, all help-seekers using HKSOS could be rescued within three hours. So far, HKSOS has won 13 international innovation and technology competition awards and has been successfully field tested in a variety of extreme weather conditions.

To enhance the support for people with hearing and speech impairments, the Force transformed the help information into images and simple texts. The images were carefully designed based on the nine types of cases that deaf people most often ask for help, such as injuries, severe blood loss and difficulty breathing. Users can also register in the app whether they are hearing-impaired or speech-impaired, which helps the reporting centre quickly understand the situation of the person seeking help. HKSOS also provides a real-time chat function to facilitate help-seekers to send images or text to the 999 reporting centre.
