To enhance awareness of crime prevention within the aviation industry, the Airport District (APTDIST) held a sharing session on March 14 for crew members and security representatives of Cathay Pacific and HK Express. The event targeted in-flight and baggage theft prevention.

District Commander (DC) of APTDIST Yip Pun-yu, Chief Inspector (Crime) of APTDIST Yu Hoi-ling, Senior Inspector of Intelligence and Support Section of APTDIST Leung Hiu-man and Police Community Relations Officer of APTDIST Li Hoi-ling explained to the participants the common modus operandi of thefts and preventive strategies. Yip Pun-yu presented a commendation certificate to a Cathay Pacific cabin crew member Ms Wong during the event to recognise her outstanding contribution to crime prevention efforts. Ms Wong spotted a man suspected of stealing on a flight in February. Although she was not on duty at the time, she promptly reported her observation to the crew and assisted the police in apprehending the suspect. After receiving the award, she shared with the participants the process of her identifying the suspect’s unusual behaviour and offered prevention strategies.

APTDIST plans to gradually launch crime prevention seminars with specific targets for different airlines and to recognise the exceptional efforts of aviation personnel in crime prevention for preventing and eradicating crime jointly.
