WHILE FOR their 22 accepted suggestions, 19 police officers were given certificates by DFAP Wong Wing-hong during the Police Staff Suggestions Scheme 11th award presentation ceremony held at PPRB on March 5.

Suggestions put forward and accepted by management included setting up a loading area on police launches, improvement to the procedures of handling the Information Report Form, and the provision of a "Folding Stair Chair" in every police station to assist members of the public who are disabled or who become incapacitated through illness.

Law and order essential to competitiveness

SPEAKING at the most recent passing-out parade at the Police Training School last month, ExCo member Nellie Fong Wong Kut-man (below shown reviewing the graduating officers) said that to ensure that Hong Kong's sound legal system was upheld, the SAR had to rely on its police Force: "You will need sharp responses and good judgement in your commitment to maintaining law and order, tackling crime and serving the community."

Sixteen probationary inspectors and 231 recruit constables graduated on the day.

Brave police officers
commended by Director of Marine
ON 26 February, seven police officers (along with 12 Hong Kong citizens) were commended by Director of Marine, Tsui Shung-yiu, for acts of bravery shown in a variety of separate incidents which involved saving the lives of individuals who would in all likelihood have drowned had the officers not jumped into Hong Kong waters to rescue them. The seven commended officers were Sergeants Tang Wing-fai, Ying Kin-kwong and Cheung Chun-wai, Senior Police Constable Tsui Tai-man, and Police Constables Chan Chi-keung, Chan Chung-chi and Wong Siu-kei.
