Friendly trip improves Mainland ties

A troop of 11 members of the Superintendents' Association visited police authorities in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou from April 25 to May 1.

The tour group was welcomed and entertained during their trip by Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Public Security Tian Qiyu, Deputy Director of the State Council's Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office Liu Mingqi, vice-president of the Police Science Society of China Yu Lei, deputy director of the Zhejiang Public Security Bureau (PSB) Wu Xinghua, and deputy director of the Shanghai PSB Wu Zhiming.

The trip not only strengthened liaison between police in Hong Kong and the Mainland, but also boosted friendship ties, forming the basis for future co-operation and cultural exchanges.

The trip to the Ministry was the first by the Supintendents' Association since the Handover, and Mr Tien spoke of the importance of continuing the good and constructive relations.

He urged the group to take back an invitation to other Hong Kong Police associations to visit the Ministry of Public Security in future.
