Protect Yourself with Police Safety Protector |
The Personnel Services Branch mission is to provide support and assistance to members of the Force. We have worked together with American International Underwriters Ltd (AIU) to bring a comprehensive accident and hospitalisation protection plan 'The Police Safety Protector'.
Frequently asked questions:
1. Will I be covered whilst on duty?
The Police Safety Protector provides 24-hour a day world-wide coverage against serious injury or death on or off duty. In fact, if you are on duty the policy automatically gives you an additional cover of HK$100,000.
2. Does this mean the premiums are very high?
HK$500,000 world-wide personal accident protection will cost you less than HK$5 a week. You can choose to increase your level of protection to HK$2 million. Once set, the premium will remain the same until you reach the maximum age for renewal.
3. Does the policy include cover for the more hazardous recreational activities?
Amateur sport and recreational activities such as water skiing and mountain climbing are covered.
4. Does the Police Safety Protector provide hospitalisation cover?
The policy provides for optional hospital cover.
5. What happens if I am admitted into a government hospital?
With the optional hospital cover, if you are admitted into a government hospital you will enjoy a daily cash benefit up to a maximum of HK$1,200 per day regardless of your actual hospital costs.
6. Will the plan also protect my family members?
You can extend the plan to provide coverage for your spouse, children, parents and parents-in-law. No medical examinations are required.
7. Will the coverage cease once I leave the Force?
You can still enjoy the coverage of the Police Safety Protector up to the age of 65 years. Just send written notification to AIU prior to leaving the Force.
8. Who provides the Police Safety Protector?
The Police Safety Protector is a tailor-made insurance policy for members of the Hong Kong Police arranged by the Personnel Services Branch with AIU.
It has now been running for over 10 years and during that period over 5,000 police officers have taken advantage of the scheme to protect themselves and their families.
