The right way to relax, with PSYNET Last issue, we discussed how people react to stress. This time we'll look at some effective methods to manage stress. Different people use different methods, going to karaoke lounges, playing mahjong, reading books and travelling. However, these methods may not necessarily help us relax and relieve stress. For example, gambling can keep people in high spirits, but the effect will disappear quickly. If gambling results in indebtedness, then the feeling of stress will be even worse. Therefore, we should choose methods of stress management carefully. The following are some of the most effective methods. Relaxation - Our body is at full output at all times because of the fast moving pace of Hong Kong. Here's some suggested ways to relax (these are only simple relaxation exercises, for better results, please consult the Force's clinical psychologists). Deep Breathing: find a quiet place, either sit or lie down, breathe in slowly and deeply, breathe out slowly and imagine you are very relaxed while you are breathing. More information on relaxation methods will be discussed in the next issue.
