Gold shake down in Stockholm The Hong Kong Police team won 41 medals at the Eighth World Police and Fire Games in Stockholm, including 12 golds. The Force delegation also nabbed 10 silver and 19 bronze medals in multiple categories. Sergeants Lau Tung-yuk and Lee Siu-wah, and Police Constable Chan Wai-chee, took a gold each in the Shooting event. Chief Inspector P. J. Barnes and SGT Leung Chi-man won golds in squash. Woman Sergeant Wong Yin-yee won gold for the cross country athletics. Inspector Ma Wai-hing, took gold in the Men's Open Singles Badminton, with Acting Superintendent Chan Chiu-nup and IP Kan Shu-keung taking the Men's Senior Doubles Badminton. CIP Ma Lung-sang and PC Lau Chun-fung won the Men's Doubles Table Tennis. Senior Police Constable Lok Sui-ching won two golds in tenpin bowling with PC Chan Chi-keung winning one more for the Force in the same event. Ten silver medals were won in tenpin bowling, tennis, table tennis, golf, orienteering and athletics. Some 19 bronze medals were taken in archery, athletics, badminton, bench press (weight lifting), karate, power lifting, shooting, and swimming. The games were held from July 16 to 24 in the Swedish capital. Led by Team Manager, Chief Superintendent (Administration) of Hong Kong Island Lee Siu-kin, the 36-member team of the Force's best athletes departed on July 15 for the Games. Chairman of Police Sports Council,Chief Superintendent (Support) Lionel Lam Kin presented them with a Force flag at Chek Lap Kok airport as a good luck token, and it obviously worked! Held every two years, it is regarded by many as a major sporting event seeing over 12,000 athletes from over 56 countries competing this year.
