| | Workshop a success in aiding problem families
The first session of the Parent-Child Link Workshop came to a heart-warming close recently with the successful reconciling of eight problem families.
Acting New Territories South Regional Commander Mak Man-poon and Boys'and Girls' Clubs Association assistant director Leung Wing-yee officiated at the Workshop's closing ceremony on July 18 and exchanged souvenirs.
The project helped the families of runaway youths aged 11 to 14, who lived in Sha Tin.
Team effort: Smiling members of the Parent-Child Link Workshop after the session | It used assorted games, discussions and outdoor activities to remind participants of the importance of communication within the family.
The number of missing person reports made in NTS were the second highest of the five land Regions.
In the first half of the year, almost 800 reports were made in the Region, about 40 per cent relating to juveniles.
Many of them had poor relationships with their families due to lack of communication and understanding.
The project was therefore developed to offer suitable education and counselling to such families through voluntary agencies.
The feedback from the families participating in the first project was very good.
Similar projects were now being planned to aid other families.
