In the swim for charity
Web-footed Crime Prevention Bureau officers helped raise over $160,000 for the aged on October 2 with a 12-hour non-stop swimathon at the Police Sports and Recreation Club pool. With 1999 being the International Year of Older Persons, the CPB swimmers teamed up with the Hong Kong Society for the Aged to organise the event. Fifteen officers including CPB Superintendent Simon Roberts took to the pool in stints from 8 am to 8 pm, cheered on by about 60 elderly fans pool side. They covered almost 28 kilometres in the swim which raised a total of $161,348. Chief Superintendent of Crime Wing Headquarters John Bicknell presented a cheque to the Society's vice-president Professor Lee Shiu-hung after the event.
