HKP golfers come to the
fore in tri-force tour
Police golfers recently proved a par above their rivals to win the annual Triangular Golf Tournament on October 25 and 26.
This year's event was hosted by the Force at the Hong Kong and Clearwater Bay Golf Clubs, and saw the 24-strong home side overpower the Singapore and Royal Thai Police Forces to win the tour's two segments. All three teams competed for the Pacific Plate while Hong Kong and Singapore also squared-off for the Ray Anning Trophy.
Assistant Commissioner Lim Soo Gee led 23 players from Singapore while Police General Thaitong Narongvich headed the party of 21 golfers from Thailand for these the eighth and tenth contests for the Plate and Trophy respectively. Conditions were perfect for both days of the tournament which counted the best 16 scores from each team.
Led by Golfing Society Chairman, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management) Tsang Yam-pui, the Hong Kong crew cruised to victory by amassing 575 points. The Thais were runners-up with 539 points, while Singapore came in at 511. Hong Kong Police Constable Silas Chan Kam-wai produced the performance of the tour by scoring 47 points at the Hong Kong Golf Club.
A dinner was held at Tsim Sha Tsui Officers' Mess on October 26 with trophy presentations.
Addressing the congregation, Mr Tsang expressed great pleasure in participating in the games for the first time.
"The Triangular match between Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore has been one of the most important annual events for us, and it continues to enjoy great success in cementing the friendships of officers in the three police forces,"Mr Tsang said. "Scores aside, the fact that we are able to spend a few hours together, sharing the common objective of exercising our bodies and minds is already an achievement."
Singapore will host the first tournament of the new millennium towards the end of next year.
