Crushed cap an eyesore

The main difficulty faced by Traffic officers on motorcycle patrol during rainy days is not the inclement weather but the limited capacity of their motorcycle panniers.

Despite their small size, the panniers have to accommodate many things. The one on the left is usually used to store a briefcase and a bottle of water. The right-side pannier stores a portable breathalyser, a dozen copies of Pol 973, a raincoat and the cap.

When directing traffic we usually wear the cap. However, more often than not, mine is crushed out of shape inside the pannier.

I feel sorry having to put on a disfigured cap. I would like to suggest all Traffic officers, including those on motorcycle duties, be issued with berets (the same as those used by Police Tactical Unit and Emergency Unit officers).

Issue fully considered

The same issue has been raised recently and has just been fully considered by the Force Uniform and Accoutrement Committee. It is the decision of the Force management, after carefully weighing the pros and cons, that Traffic officers should continue to wear the foldable caps when not wearing helmets.
