Records tumble at
cross country carnival
Multiple records were broken at this year's Police Cross Country Championships held at Fanling Golf Club on December 13.
In perfect running weather with sunny, cool and dry conditions, a record 265 competitors, the largest ever for the event, battled for a glittering array of trophies which saw three course records broken in an exciting and intense competition.
The Police Tactical Unit's Acting Chief Inspector Andy Naylor ran his fastest race ever with a record time of 19 minutes and 52 seconds (19'52"), just pipping Police Constable Ching Ying-wai of the New Territories North Emergency Unit, at the post by one second.
Forty seconds later PC Chan Man-for, Acting Sergeant Wong Wing-kuen and Cheng Chi-hung raced to the finish.
Right on their heels came senior event winner SGT Chow Chi-keung of PTU, just beating Men's Veteran champion Senior Police Constable Ko Fuk-ming of Central Division who crossed the line in a new record time of 21'40".
For the shorter, five-kilometre ladies course it was the Police Training School's Flora Lee Yin-ping who took line honours in a new record time of 14'44".
Trophy presentations were made by Director of Personnel and Training Leung Fung-shun, assisted by Kowloon West and New Territories North Regional Commanders M. Stradmoor and Ng Wai-kit, along with Assistant Commissioner of Police (Service Quality) Harry Blud.
Mr Blud also ran in the race, finishing in fine style.
