14th JPC awards presented


JPC jamboree: CP Eddie Hui with Hongkong Bank head Edwin Lau at the PSRC

Hongkong Bank Foundation Junior Police Call Award Scheme presentations were held at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on January 29.

Commissioner of Police Eddie Hui Ki-on, Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Peter Wong Tsan-kwong and Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Assistant General Manager and Head of Personal Banking Edwin Lau Chi-kit, officiated at the event.

It was the 14th consecutive year the Foundation had sponsored the annual scheme launched in 1977 to recognise dedicated JPC members through four categories: the JPC Member Award, JPC Leader Award, JPC School Club Award and JPC District Council Award.

Wong Tai Sin and Yau Tsim members Pang Ka-lung and Law Chi-yee won the JPC Member and Leader Awards respectively. They were each presented with a trophy and a $8,000 cash award.

Yau Tsim's St Mary's Canossian College was selected champion of the JPC School Club Award and received a $13,000 cash prize.

Yau Tsim also won the JPC District Council Award and was honoured with a $21,000 cash prize.

Some 12,000 diversified activities were held by the JPC last year, up more than 10 per cent on 1998. The activities included a fight crime summer camp, a drug-wise camp, the mini-Olympics, flag selling and a star gazing camp which together attracted more than 400,000 participants.
