Charity drive unearths
$300,000 treasure!

The Police Motoring Club held its Millennium Charity Auto Treasure Hunt January 23, raising $303,000 for the Police Children's Education Trust and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

Some 250 cars and motorcycles drove a circuit of the old Kai Tak airport before taking off for various destinations around Kowloon and the New Territories in a virtual motor-orienteering event.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) Cheung Chi-shum and movie comedian Stephen Chiau Sing-chi officiated at the starting ceremony. After driving for some 150 kilometres searching for answers to the questions posed in the competition, the vehicles returned to Kai Tak in the afternoon where Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management) Tsang Yam-pui conducted the presentation ceremony.

Wong Kit-lung won the Honour Class, Ng Hiu-wan was first runner-up and Leung Kam-kong was second runner-up. Wong Siu-on secured the Open Class championship with Lau Chi-kong second and Chan Kang-wing third. Hui Ngai-sang won the Motorcycle Championship while Leung Chi-wah won the Police Motoring Club trophy.
