Delta delivery of PTU recruits

The Police Tactical Unit's Delta Company marched into a new era passing out at PTU Headquarters in Fanling on January 28.

Reviewing the valiant and spirited Company, Director of Operations Dick Lee Ming-kwai said the graduation was historic being the first Company to pass out in the new millennium.

"Moreover, we have already seen the excellent performance of the Company well before its graduation. During the millennium celebrations, members of the Company who were still under training at the time took up crowd control duties in the vicinity of the Star Ferry piers in Tsim Sha Tsui," Mr Lee said. "Thanks to their unrelenting efforts in maintaining law and order, public safety at this particularly crowded area at the height of the celebrations was ensured."

To commemorate the new millennium and contributions to the Force by former Commissioner of Police Roy Henry, PTU Commandant Ng Man-kim donated the Roy Henry Memorial Trophy for the best all-round Platoon of the graduating Company. Delta's Platoon Three became the first ever winners of the prize.

Three of Delta's Platoons were drawn from Kowloon East Region and one from Marine, under the leadership of Company Commander Superintendent Ng Tsui Fung-ying from Personnel Wing.

The Company started its 30-week Regional attachment on January 30, based at Kai Tak.
