Bowls team lords of the lawns

The Police Lawn Bowls Club Team 'A' triumphed in the Division One Championship of the Summer League 1999-2000, Hong Kong's premier division.

They took out the championship adding another to their string of recent victories including the Winter League 1998-99. The team was in second spot for most of the championship's first half, but leaped to the top of the ladder after a crucial game in which it beat leaders Kowloon Bowling Green Club 6-2.

Meanwhile, the Club will organise the annual inter-district competition, the Wallis Trophy, late this month to attract new bowlers to the game and supplement the Police Mens and Ladies Teams. The competition will be in the 'Triples' format with three players per team, male or female. Opening rounds will be in round-robin form, leading up to quarter/semi-finals and the final. Matches are usually played on Tuesday afternoons and one of the players in a triples team must be new to the sport. Each formation can enter up to two teams. Entries can be faxed to N.B. Cuthbertson, CIP OCTB C1 on 2570-8305. Or call 2860-3337 for more info. Deadline for entries is February 23. Interested staff can also approach Yeung Kit-kin, the Convenor of the Club at 9075-7952, for training sessions which can be arranged for new players on Wednesday or Thursday evenings. New players can also attend the Club's training at PSRC every Thursday evening. Contact Kwan Kim-fai on 9620-2057 or 2860-8117 or 71103356 a/c 991, for info.
