Last chance to apply for summer exchange

If you always wanted to experience life in a foreign country, learn about different cultures, meet people from all over the world, camp in the Swiss Alps, or even understand more about environmental conservation and a new language, now is the time to give your children their chance to fulfil such dreams.

The Police Welfare Fund is now offering sponsorship for 12 children of police officers to take part in the America Field Service Intercultural Exchanges (AFS) Summer Programs 2000. Youngsters aged 15 to 21 will have the unique opportunity to experience life in a foreign country for four to six weeks. A range of programs are on offer to serve different needs and purposes of individual participants:

Language Programs in Canada/Australia - Students will be accommodated by AFS host families and given intensive language tuition by qualified teachers;

Culture Studies Program in New Zealand - Students will attend a local high school and take part in sports and outdoor activities in a country which is diverse in its scenery, and students may also be able to learn about local crafts and culture;

Cultural Conservation Program in United Kingdom - Students, grouped in pairs, will be given work placements with agencies involved in conservation of the environment and infrastructure;

Environmental Conservation Program in Switzerland - Students will stay with a host family to learn about their culture and language, and will have the opportunity to work with the Swiss Alps environmental conservation projects.

Ten sponsorship places have been reserved for children of JPOs and two for children of Inspectorate officers. For further details and the application forms, look out for PEN messages or contact your TSROs or Regional Welfare Officers. Don't Miss out! Applications should reach CSP PS (Attn: EO PS2) by February 23 latest.
