Goodbye, Kowloon Bay control

Champers control: DC MTR Noel Howcroft cracks open the bubbly in the old Kowloon Bay control room

MTR District closed a two-decade chapter in its operations with the decommissioning of its control centre on March 7.

The MTR DIST Police Control Room at the railway's depot in Kowloon Bay, was closed after 21 years of operation.

It was housed alongside the Mass Transit Railway Corporation's Central Control Room, providing dedicated command and control of officers, and MTRC resources and services within the system.

In 1998 the MTRC opened its new Operations Control Centre near Tsing Yi station featuring a new Police Control Room.

A phased migration of the communications and control network took place. Full control of all MTR DIST resources was recently completed and then passed to Tsing Yi on March 7.

The District, along with staff from Communications Branch and the MTRC, held a ceremony in the old centre to mark the occasion.

MTR District Commander Noel Howcroft thanked both police and rail staff for their professionalism and hard work in ensuring the smooth operation of the old centre over the years.

He also hailed the seamless migration to the new one.
