Man's best friend, criminals' biggest fear
New Territories North Region dominated the Fifth Annual Police Dog Trials on March 23.
NTN snatched the top three titles in the Open Category and first and third in the Novice Category at the Police Dog Unit Headquarters in Fanling.
Winner of the Advanced Category was Hong Kong Island Region PC Li Ka-fai and his dog Zak, who also won the overall championship.
The annual trials are held to strengthen team spirit and professionalism of handlers and police dogs. This year's event featured the Invitation Category for the first time, with six handlers and dogs from the Correctional Services Department (CSD) and the Hong Kong Kennel Club (HKKC) taking part, exchanging skills and experience.
Kowloon City District Police Constable Hung Ping and his new canine partner KK were first runners-up in the Novice Category. The pair made an impressive performance, exactly one year after his former partner Rocky the German Shepherd, was killed chasing a suspect in Ho Man Tin. PC Hung said he often reminisced his good old days with Rocky, and found KK a good partner too.
