Crime training workshops

ACP C Yam Tat-wing offers trainees his views and experiences in the work of Crime officers

A series of three-day train-the-trainers workshops on service improvement were held for crime officers in May to enhance their knowledge on modern services.

The workshops, held at PTS and attended by 57 police and civilian officers, were jointly organised by the Training Development Bureau and Crime Wing.

Areas covered included identifying customers and understanding their needs, knowing the difference between a task and a service, improvements to interpersonal skills, and understanding factors which affect service quality.

Participants also looked at emotional quotient, stress, conflict and time management, fostering positive and proactive approaches and knowing trainer and facilitator's roles to effectively spread messages to colleagues.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Yam Tat-wing and Aviation Security Company general manager Chau Foo-cheong were invited to share their experiences with participants.

Said Mr Yam: "These workshops are organised to tie in with the public's increasing demands for better services from police officers. We hope that by taking part in the courses, officers will strive to enhance their professionalism and further improve the quality of service they provide.

"I hope that in their future work, they will put more emphasis on service in addition to being task-oriented. This proactive attitude will not only benefit their present job but also be a plus for their career development."

Force Training Officer Superintendent Clarence Tang Ki-yun described the workshop as 'tailor-made' for crime officers, saying: "During our preparation work, we went to different crime formations to have a better understanding of their day-to-day work and their particular training needs in order to design comprehensive and practical courses.

"The workshops were well-received by officers and we are planning to include some of the contents into crime formations' training days."
