Anti-graft graduates

The maintenance of Hong Kong' stability and prosperity requires a force with integrity of the highest order.

This was the message from Independent Commission Against Corruption Commissioner Alan Lai, speaking at a passing-out parade of 18 Probationary Inspectors, six graduates of the Inspectors' Induction Course and 55 Recruit Police Constables on July 22 at the Police Training School. Mr Lai said the Force and the ICAC had worked closely over the years in the battle against graft, their partnership of trust continuing to flourish through joint operations and criminal intelligence exchange.

He also hailed the Force' efforts in promoting a culture of healthy living, prudent personal finance management and integrity among its staff. "In 1995, the Force led as the first government department to set up its Anti-Corruption Strategy Steering Committee to oversee the formulation and implementation of Force-wide initiatives. Comprising senior officers with ICAC representation, the Committee has since yielded impressive results," Mr Lai said.

"I have no doubt that if the Force and the ICAC persist in our partnership to bring about a safer and cleaner society, the basis of Hong Kong' success will be even firmer."

Commending the graduates for their stamina and perseverance during the demanding training programme, Mr Lai said he was confident they were well-equipped to serve the community in the years to come, particularly with the challenges of high-tech and global crime.
