Officers should be allowed to keep berets Regional Traffic Headquarters and Emergency Unit officers have been distributed berets. However, officers who are transferred out of traffic teams need to return their berets which will not be re-issued to other officers due to hygienic concerns. Is this a waste of resources? I think it would be better to change the scale of issue from station charge to personal charge. Besides, every traffic officer is now given two berets but only one cap badge. What should we do if we accidentally lose the badge? Why not give us a spare? 'Police Constable Kwan'
Support Wing responds . . . The Force is concerned about the potential hygiene problems which might be caused as a result of distributing berets on station charge. For this reason, berets which are returned to the Police Stores upon the transfer of officers will not be re-issued to other officers. To improve this situation and to use resources more effectively, the Uniform and Accoutrements Committee decided at the last meeting (July 12) to address the Civil Service Bureau to change the scale of beret issue from station charge to personal charge. Regarding the distribution of cap badges, Police Stores will as a matter of practice, issue a corresponding number of cap badges to match that of police headgear. Officers who have any queries on this should check with their barrack office. Support Sergeants are also welcome to approach Police Stores to collect adequate cap badges for their frontline officers, if necessary.
