MOU signed with Government Lab

The Force and the Government Laboratory renewed their vows of top co-operation with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on August 16.

Director of Crime and Security Louis Lau Chun-sing and Acting Government Chemist Dr David Clarke signed the document at a ceremony in Police Headquarters.

The document recognises the need for, and importance of strengthening co-operation between the two departments to fight crime, and to co-ordinate their efforts to pursue excellence and improve efficiency.

The two sides agreed to mutual consultation and reciprocal representation, exchange of information and technical co-operation.

Mr Lau said the document represented a useful milestone in the 90-years of teamwork between the departments.

"The document lays out in clear and simple terms the ways in which the operations of the Force and those of the Laboratory should interact in future. Scientific advances and legislative changes generally impose new and more complex duties upon both our investigators and the lab specialists who support us," Mr Lau said.

"Getting things right is always of primary concern. The document confirms and formalises the proven methods of work and communication which we have been steadily improving together. We can never afford to be complacent and improved performance has always been one of our common aims."

Dr Clarke said the two shared common aims in providing the highest quality scientific evidence technology could allow.

"I am confident we can move forward to accomplish even more in a smoother, more efficient manner and as a consequence, enhance further the spirit of mutual co-operation, understanding and achievement between our departments," he said.
