Trilateral cross-border crime meeting

Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong Crime investigation chiefs recently attended a three-day conference in Guangzhou to discuss combating cross-border crime and improving law and order.

Led by Director of Crime and Security Louis Lau Chun-sing, the Force delegates met Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department Deputy Director Zheng Shao-dong, and the Adviser (Co-ordinator) of the Office of the Macau Secretary for Security, Wong Chi-keung. Ministry of Public Security Criminal Investigation Department Office Director, and the Interpol Office of the National Criminal Bureau, China, Deputy Director, Xue Dong-zheng, also attended.

The meeting, held August 21 to 23, was the first ever seeing crime investigation heads of the three regions discussing ways to enhance exchange of intelligence and strengthen co-operation.

They also reviewed the crime situation in their relative regions for the first seven months of the year.

Joint efforts in curbing organised crime, triads and drugs, along with cross-border offences, were examined.

The meeting heard that along with regional development, the modus operandi used by cross-border criminals had also become more sophisticated.

Similar meetings will take place regularly in Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong on a rotation basis.
