JPCamp!

Ag CP Tsang Yam-pui and Ag CS Michael Suen try one of the camp's game stalls

Some 1,400 Junior Police Call members participated in the JPC Fight Crime Summer Camp at Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village on August 24.

Acting Chief Secretary for Administration Michael Suen and Acting Commissioner of Police Tsang Yam-pui opened the camp before sampling some of the fun activities.

The annual camp, organised by Police with sponsorship from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, aims to provide education and fun for members during the summer holidays. This year also saw the participation of 22 JPC members from Macau.

After the tour, Mr Suen told the members that the adoption of the 'Don't be Greedy' and 'Safeguard Your Property and Personal Safety' themes for the camp were important social issues they should consider.

"Young people can easily go astray if they are not alert to the materialistic trend in our society. Police have recorded an increase in deception cases recently. Swindlers make use of people's greediness to cheat them of their savings," he said.

Mr Suen hailed the joint efforts of Police, the Home Affairs Department, District Fight Crime Committees and the JPC in launching the 'Help People to Help Themselves' activity in which thousands of youth ambassadors were trained to disseminate fight crime messages to the public.

Citing the 'Help People' activity as an innovative means to promote the fight-crime concept, Mr Suen said he hoped similar campaigns would come in future. He then presented prizes to the ambassadors, lauding their top work.
