Anti-crime crusades

A host of formations recently conducted fight crime activities.

Central District officers distributed publicity leaflets and souvenirs carrying anti-deception messages around the Landmark, Exchange Square, The Centre, Hollywood Road, Ladder Street and Central Market on August 17.

Members of the Central and Western District Fight Crime Committee and local fight crime youth ambassadors also assisted.

On the same day, Tai Po District reminded residents to beware of street deceptions, inviting them to compete in fight-crime quizzes. Anti-crime messages were broadcast, and publicity leaflets and souvenirs were also distributed around Shek Wu Hui Market. District Commander To Ho-kee, Sheung Shui Divisional Commander Steve Evans and New Territories North Regional Crime Prevention Office (RCPO) staff attended.

Kowloon West RCPO officers mounted a campaign on August 18 to deter shop thefts. Sham Shui Po District Commander Lung Hung-cheuk and officers distributed specially-designed labels carrying anti-theft messages to shops in the area.

Meanwhile, SSPo , Tuen Mun and Wong Tai Sin Districts also held fight crime activities to the tune of "Help People to Help Themselves".

SSPo District and the SSPo District Fight Crime Committee appointed fight crime youth ambassadors in the Dragon Centre on August 4. They received certificates of appointment from Mr Lung and Committee members. They will help Police disseminate fight crime messages through school seminars and by paying home visits during the summer holidays.

On August 15, Tuen Mun District Commander Chiu Kam-fai, TM District Officer Jacky Lum and TM District Fight Crime Committee representatives distributed souvenirs and leaflets reminding the public to be wary of street deceptions and job traps.

Wong Tai Sin District also appointed fight crime youth ambassadors while also commending good citizens on August 3.

Thirty people representing several hundred youth ambassadors received certificates of appointment at Wong Tai Sin District Office. Eight brave citizens who helped arrest suspects in connection with various thefts and attempted robberies were also commended and presented certificates and cash awards. Officiating guests were District Commander Ian Tyzzer, District Officer Victoria Tang and District Fight Crime Committee members.
