Cultural ambassadors return
The 11 world travellers with CSP PS Martin Samson
|
Ten officers' children who spent the summer with host families overseas gathered at the Police Sports and Recreation Club August 26 to share their experiences.
They participated in an exchange programme sponsored by the Police Welfare Fund Scholarship Scheme and co-ordinated by AFS Intercultural Exchanges. They spent time in Australia, Canada, Switzerland and England, taking in the spectacular sights, learning their hosts' cultures and tasting their daily lives. Their English proficiency was also given a hearty boost.
The McDonald's AFS Scholarship winner for 1999-2000, Leo Lau Yu-kiu, who spent a year in the United States, also attended.
The crew reflected on their experiences abroad and thanked the sponsors and host families. Personnel Services Chief Superintendent Martin Samson and sponsors' representatives were also on hand, sampling a display of photos taken by the youths in their host countries.
