Force covets Valley vengeance

"Now listen up, you blokes": Skipper Dave Lewis conducts the pump-up session

Back in training: The Police Rugby boys in action at the PSRC, warming up for the new season

With teeth still gnashing over last season's heart-breaking grand final loss to Valley, the Police rugby team is back in training, vowing for blood.

OffBeat caught the lads in practise at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on September 2, with skipper Dave Lewis and company plotting their rugby retribution against last season's Minor League champs.

They lost 24-12 in the January final, a painful end to one of the team's toughest yet most successful seasons seeing them undefeated but for two matches.

"The final win to Valley inched them one measly point ahead in the championship to take the title, so obviously we were all pretty devastated. And this came even after we beat them in a match earlier in the season," Lewis said.

"This time around things will be different. We've done our homework and will aim to make the most of our strengths and of the opposition's flaws. We will wither them to their knees. If Valley want blood, they've got it!"

The Police boys have scored a friendly 15s match against the Japanese Mitsubishi team September 16 at the PSRC, to warm them up for the new season which kicks-in that weekend. The season will run through to the Rugby Sevens next March.

The Police Rugby Club welcomes new players. Those interested can call Dave Lewis on 2669-6271 for information, or simply pop along to one of the Club's training sessions on the PSRC pitch on Wednesdays 6 pm to 7, and Saturdays 4 pm to 5.
