Cheung Chau class

Nineteen Polar Star Project youngsters participated in a summer training camp on Cheung Chau, August 1 to 3.

They enjoyed the recreational amenities of the camp and tried different activities like orienteering before attending talks on drugs, triads and the law.

Inmate volunteers from the Chuen Pei Cell Group gave them a better understanding of the consequences of drugs and triads, talking of their own experiences. Meanwhile, numerous outdoor activities boosted their physical fitness and instilled a sense of self-awareness, and a positive and healthy attitude towards life.

They included Judo experts Yuen Yuk-hei and Lau Chak-kei who gave a demonstration of their skills and discipline, conveying the correct use of martial arts for the youths to grasp the essence of practising Judo - the principle of 'making good use of energy'.

Yuen Long District Police Community Relations Officer Chief Inspector Ngan Cheuk-leung presented the troop with certificates of merit, praising their enthusiasm and team spirit. The youths said they gained a lot from the camp.

Polar Star was set up in the District in February 1998, to help curb rising youth crime in the area through education on the law, and contact with officers and other good role models.
