RC KE Gordon Fung is safely ushered on stage |
Some 300 visitors attended the opening ceremony of the new Sau Mau Ping Road Safety Town on November 4.
The 2,700-square-metre facility on Sau Ming Road takes over from the old SMP Road Safety Town built in 1970, the first of its kind in Hong Kong. Some half a million people visited the facility over the three decades. It was demolished to make way for further development of the area.
Officiating at the ceremony was Kowloon East Regional Commander Gordon Fung Siu-yuen, Chief Superintendent (Traffic) Tang How-kong, Road Safety Patrol Commissioner Ng Keing-wai as well as Leisure and Cultural Services Department Acting Assistant Director Shum Hing-hay.
The day's highlights included a certificate presentation ceremony for road safety town assistant pioneers, tree planting, commissioning of facilities in the town and the painting of wall murals carrying road safety messages.
Kindergarten kids also hit the stage for a performance of road safety singing and dancing, donning vibrant traffic sign costumes.
