PMC's Guangxi getaway

In the pits: The kilometres take their toll

Some 212 officers and their families drove a convoy of 58 vehicles to Guangxi and back recently, taking in all the fun, sights and culinary delights along the way.

Organised by the Police Motoring Club as part of the Healthy Lifestyles campaign, the fleet set off from Sha Tin Race Course in the early hours of October 13, the convoy out sizing a fleet of four Police Tactical Unit companies. They made the 400-kilometre trip to Xin Du Zhen in time for lunch, before rolling northwards to Guilin for dinner. Next day they cruised the famous Lijiang river.

Day three capped off with a grand reception held by the Guilin Public Security Bureau at a five-star hotel. On the invitation of Public Security head Lu Bing-hua, Senior Assistant Commissioner Robin Leung Fung-shun was Guest of Honour. Day four they rallied west to Nanning and organised a charity function to raise funds for the Hong Kong-based Caring for Children Foundation to help build a school in Guangxi.

Next day, the fleet continued west to Beihai for some swimming and lunch, returning to Nanning for dinner and a performance by the local Police Arts Group.

Next day, they headed south to Guangdong and back to Hong Kong. With all participants accounted for at Lok Ma Chau, a sense of relief was evident on the smiling faces of the organising committee, which included the Chairman Chan Chun-hing and Convoy Commanders Leung Nim-ho, Ng Tak-shing, Tsang Kwok-wah, Chan Man-keung and Wong Sau-kit. A trip to Hunan is slated for next year.

Meanwhile, the Club will also organise a treasure hunt for January 3. Interested officers can call Sergeant Lui Kwok-yiu on 2352-9344 for information.
