Ng Wai-kit delivers the message on-air

Some 89 stolen containers were returned by the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department in a ceremony in Guangzhou on December 23, one of Eddie Hui Ki-on's last functions as Commissioner.

They were among 129 containers reported missing last August. The batch of 89 was recovered about a month later and two men were arrested, one each in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Director of Crime and Security Louis Lau Chun-sing, then New Territories North Regional Commander Ng Wai-kit, then Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Peter Wong Tsan-kwong also attended the ceremony, along with Department Director and Deputy Director Liang Guoju and Zheng Shaodong respectively.

  • Yau Tsim District, Kowloon West Regional Crime Prevention Office and the Crime Prevention Bureau held a seminar on building security at Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station on December 8. Yau Tsim District Commander John Bicknell, about 50 watchmen and several community leaders attended and shared their experiences and expertise on the subject.

    Meanwhile, another seminar on factory and office security was held at Cheung Sha Wan Police Station on December 13. Anti-burglary devices were on display and officers on hand to introduce security measures to watchmen. Sham Shui Po District Commander Lung Hung-cheuk and Cheung Sha Wan Divisional Commander Wong Wai-fung also attended.

  • Western District held a seminar on youth problems at the Police Training School on December 12. Representatives from government departments, non-government agencies, social welfare groups, schools and parents exchanged views on the source of youth problems and methods to deter youngsters from crime. Western Deputy District Commander Choi Wong Fung-yee, Southern District Fight Crime Committee Chairman Ko Tam-kan and other community leaders were among the guests of honour.

  • A New Territories North road safety television extravaganza was held at TV City on December 19. Then RC NTN Ng Wai-kit, Chief Superintendent Traffic William Tang How-kong and a host of guests attended the show, broadcast on TVB Jade on December 22.

    A host of entertainers helped promote road safety and issue safe driving advice through dramas and other performances.

  • Kowloon West Traffic Unit moved into its new base at the former Hung Hom Police Station on January 7. The Unit, along with the traffic accident report room, moved from its previous base in the Mong Kok Police Station complex to Wai Wan Lane under the Kowloon City District amalgamation project. Report room phone and fax numbers remain unchanged.
