Kung fu cousins sleep over

Pretty in pink: These Fujianese girls stop for a photo with their Hong Kong 'big sister'

Police Chinese Wushu Club members billeted over a dozen Mainland youngsters over Christmas to promote Hong Kong and traditional martial arts.

Some 15 Force families accommodated the 12 boys and five girls aged 10 to 13, who were excellent academic achievers and budding kung fu masters. They were selected from students in Putian in Fujian Province, with the help of the Putian Wushu Association.

From December 22 to 27, they sampled Hong Kong life, doing a little sightseeing and taking in the fun of the festive season. They returned the favour by staging two stunning kung fu demonstrations at the Police Sports and Recreation Club and at a Hung Hom school.

Meanwhile, the Club is planning a trip to Putian in July for officers' children. They will get to sample life there and receive a little military training to enhance their discipline and stamina.

The Club is looking for volunteer helpers for the event. Call Shum Kam-tim on 9202-0013 for details.
