Sampling Sunshine State service quality

CSP David Madoc-Jones and SP Kenneth Li thank the Ethical Standards Command officers

Two Service Quality Wing officers had a first-hand look at top policing from an Australian perspective recently, thanks to the Queensland Police Service.

Chief Superintendent (Research and Inspections) David Madoc-Jones and Superintendent (Research Division) Kenneth Li Kin-fai visited the Sunshine State force late last year to examine the roles, functions and procedures of the Inspectorate and Evaluation Branch of its Ethical Standards Command.

They were given an overview of the workings of the Command and the services it provides, and studied closely the Branch and the Internal Audit Unit.

The SQ pair also met several senior executive officers of the force, who said it was interesting to note the parallels in the issues both jurisdictions faced, despite the somewhat different policing environments of Hong Kong and Queensland.

Mr Madoc-Jones said the visit provided a valuable exchange of information and was sure to bring both the short and long-term benefits of positive interaction between the two forces.

"Study visits like this are the catalyst for self-examination and assessment for both sides, and support the philosophy of continuous improvement and the striving for excellence," he said.
