POLICE in brief



A parade marking the retirement of Auxiliary Police Commandant Peter Chau Cham-chiu was held at AP Headquarters in Kowloon Bay on January 13. Mr Chau served the Force for 26 years with four years as Commandant. Commissioner Tsang Yam-pui and a host of other senior officers were among the guests.

  • The Personnel Services Branch held a day camp enhancing children's social skills on December 16 in Sai Kung. Conducted by a group of social workers, about 130 parents and their children attended, taking part in seminars, role-play and discussions. The children were divided into groups according to their ages, to practise their newly learned skills.

  • Yau Tsim officers and representatives of the local Kai Fong Welfare Association visited the children's wards of the Queen Elizabeth and Kwong Wah Hospitals on December 28, cheering up the young patients with gifts and Christmas carols. The party comprised of YT District Commander John Bicknell, Yau Ma Tei Divisional Commander Leung Hing-ping, community leaders and the Police Children's Choir.

  • Marine Port District held its Anti-Crime Carnival 2001 at Sau Kei Wan Aldrick Bay Government Primary School on January 21. Officiating guests included Marine Regional Commander Spencer Foo Tsun-kong, Deputy RC Ng Chee-kin, Marine Port District Commander Kong Shing-shun, along with district officers and Fight Crime Committee members.

    The carnival promoted anti-crime awareness among boat fuel suppliers, fishermen and their families. The activities included a fight-crime exhibition and symposium, first aid demonstrations, Police dog performances and game stalls.

  • Cheung Chau Divisional Commander Feline Li Wai-lin and Police Community Relations Officer Cheng Kwok-ping led officers and Junior Police Call members to distribute leaflets on household safety and blackmail around Cheung Chau, Peng Chau and Lamma Island, on January 13. They also reminded islanders on the dangers of gambling and firecrackers.

    Meanwhile, Marine South Divisional Commander Lam Cheuk-ping distributed leaflets on vessel safety around Cheung Chau Typhoon Shelter, and appealed to fisher folk to step up anti-crime measures.
