Western safety days

The 2001 Southern District Fight Crime Run was held along the Aberdeen promenade on March 4. Some 300 participants competing in individual, youth and relay categories took part, including officers from other disciplined forces and Junior Police Call members.

The event was organised by Western District and the Southern Sports and Recreation Association, and its highlights included performances by the Police Band.

Officiating guests were Western District Commander Barry Griffin, Southern District Officer Yip Lee Hang-yee, Southern District Council Chairman Chan Yuek-sut as well as Southern District Fight Crime Committee Chairman Ko Tam-kan.

Meanwhile, Western held a bus parade from Aberdeen Town Centre to Tin Wan and Stanley to disseminate road safety messages on March 10, as part of the Southern District 2000/2001 Road Safety Campaign.

Western Police Community Relations Officer Mak Chui-tong joined Mr Chan, also Southern District's Road Safety Campaign Committee Chairman, and his Vice Chairman Tse Kit-to, to officiate at the launch ceremony, before distributing road safety leaflets and souvenirs at bus stops along the route. The next day saw Western's Road Safety Promotional Carnival, also in Aberdeen Town Centre. Officers highlighted road safety issues through quizzes, exhibitions, games and various performances.

Mr Griffin was joined by Aberdeen Divisional Commander Chau Cho-kei, Hong Kong Island Traffic Superintendent Cheung Man-biu, Mrs Yip and Mr Chan to officiate at the opening ceremony.
