PPRB's replies to the media

A letter was sent to a Chinese paper rebutting comments it ran in a column (March 15) regarding the Staff Opinion Survey coverage in the previous issue of OffBeat. The column claimed the Force paper chose to cover the bright side of the results. The letter said the article simply announced the highlights of the survey, while more detailed diagrams were carried on inside pages allowing objective analysis by readers.

  • A letter was sent to a Chinese-language paper to debunk an article published March 5, that claimed officers were forced to learn motorcycling and obtain a riders' licence, even if they were not keen on riding the machines. The letter disproved the report saying officers received motorcycle training on a voluntary basis only.

  • A press release was issued March 10 refuting newspaper reports that a serving police officer had written to a court testifying to the integrity of a defendant. It said the writer of the letter in question had retired in June last year and was simply passing on his own personal viewpoints. The release also said that the letter maintained that his comments did not represent the views of the Force or of the Commissioner.
