PDU dog display day
The Police Dog Unit held the Sixth Police Dog Trials at PDU Headquarters, March 18.
The competition, divided into novice, advanced and open categories, saw handlers and their dogs compete in a host of events to test the dogs' obedience, agility and proficiency in assisting police work. The trials strengthen the professional standards and team spirit of the handlers and their dogs, and demonstrates their skills for the public.
The day saw the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals hold a carnival attended by some 5,000 people on PDU's parade grounds where owners and their pups participated in a dogathon, an invitational obedience competition and other fun contests.
Handlers from the Correctional Services Department and the Hong Kong Kennel Club, and their dogs, participated in an invitational obedience competition to exchange skills and experience.
The Police Band and the Hong Kong Sea School Band also performed on the day, with Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Cheung Chi-shum and the SPCA's Brigadier Christopher Hammerbeck officiating.
