POLICE in brief

Some 40 Western District officers were presented pennants and silver plates March 29, by the Hong Kong University Estate Office, Shun Shing Construction and Engineering Company, and Ap Lei Chau Area Committee, to commend their detection of a series of burglaries and thefts.

Western District Commander Barry Griffin, Southern District Fight Crime Committee Chairman Ko Tam-kan, and Southern District Council Chairman Chan Yuek-sut were in attendance.

  • A 16-member delegation of the Traffic Wardens Union, led by Chairman and Vice-Chairman Hung Cheung-yau and Lee Kam-wah, held a seminar in Shenzhen March 28 to 30.

    They discussed communication skills and speech delivery, how meetings should be conducted as well as regulations concerning privacy with the help of information provided by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.

    Participants also looked at stress and financial management, first aid and the handling of traffic accident scenes, and human resources management. The Union planned to visit their counterparts in Guangdong at the end of the year for experience sharing.

  • Acting Tuen Mun District Commander Chiu Kam-fai officiated at a security personnel election organised by TM District's Crime Prevention Office and Fight Crime Committee. It was held at TM Police Station on April 6, and attracted about 300 nominations from which five outstanding security personnel were elected. Also officiating at the event was TM Assistant District Officer Ho Ho-suen and TM DFCC Chairman Lau Ip-keung.

  • Luk Fook Group Director and Deputy General Manager Tse Moon-chuen presented a banner to Mong Kok District Investigation Team Four Detective Inspector Tsang Chun-kit, at Mong Kok Police Station on March 14, in appreciation of his team's work in bringing a thief to justice.

    The Group's retail shop at Sun Hing Building in Nathan Road reported on December 21 that six diamond rings worth more than $170,000 were missing.

    After detailed investigations, Inspector Tsang and his officers arrested a shop employee and recovered the stolen property.
