CE samples NP Station
Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa visited North Point Police Station April 4, to sample the latest Force projects.
Accompanied by Commissioner Tsang Yam-pui and Hong Kong Island Regional Commander Eric Leung Chi-bun, Mr Tung viewed displays and received briefings on the operations of Police Report Rooms, Traffic formations and community relations projects, before meeting a wide cross section of Junior Police Officers at a tea reception.
Mr Tung was briefed on Force efforts in combating youth crime, such as a multi-agency project in Eastern District that was fostering a positive view of life among its young participants. Mr Tung said he was pleased to learn the Force had adopted such a comprehensive and proactive strategy in combating juvenile delinquency.
"The multi-agency approach that involves Police, social workers, schools and others will help ensure a more holistic approach to the provision of services to youths at risk," he said."Juvenile delinquency has always been a major concern to me, and I am glad to know the Force has put forward proactive and comprehensive strategies to help youngsters at risk."
He was shown how Police utilised high technology to improve its services to the public and toured NP's Report Room, recently redesigned under the Station Improvement Project. He sampled the new Information Kiosks and was briefed on the computerised Communal Information System that has enhanced efficiency and service quality by replacing much of the Report Room's paperwork.
During a demonstration by Traffic Hong Kong Island, Mr Tung was shown the latest speed and smoke detection, and breathalyser equipment, along with new BMW patrol motorcycles.
Speaking with officers during his visit, Mr Tung said:"I am greatly impressed by the dedicated efforts you have made in performing your duties. As frontline officers, you have set an excellent example for the entire civil service.
"Police play a very important role in upholding the rule of law which is the key for maintaining social order. I am confident that you will follow the fine tradition of the Force and remain devoted to serving the community. The people of Hong Kong will continue to show their full support for your work and take pride in your remarkable performance."
