Kowloon East team go for green

Kowloon East Region and the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) will launch a recycling initiative on June 5, World Environment Day or 'Eco Day'.

The Region has worked with EPD to acquire nine sets of coloured collection bins; brown for plastics, yellow for aluminium and blue for paper. KE staff were being encouraged to participate in the recycling scheme by dropping waste paper, plastic bottles and aluminium cans into the appropriate bins. EPD also provided contacts for local recycling contractors so all KE police stations could be added to their collection routes.

Although green management has long been practised in the Force, the recycling scheme was one of several environmental initiatives recently introduced by the Region under the supervision of a newly-established committee. Chaired by Sau Mau Ping District Commander Anthony Au Yiu-kwan, the committee includes EPD community relations head Mabel Mak and representatives from throughout the Region.

Other KE green management initiatives being launched included drives to reduce water and electricity consumption, improve air quality and enhance the environmental awareness of staff. Junior Police Call and Hong Kong Award for Young People members were also being recruited as green ambassadors.

The Region hopes these initiatives help improve environmental protection in Hong Kong. What's your formation doing to help?
