Police primed for games glory

Force athletes are ready to flex their sporting prowess in the upcoming Ninth World Police and Fire Games in the United States this month.

The 34 competitors received their final briefing from Police Sports Council Chairman Harry Blud at the Police Officers' Club on May 31, and the squad were also presented the Hong Kong SAR and Force Flags by Deputy Commissioner (Management) Dick Lee Ming-kwai.

Mr Blud would head the team to Indianapolis with Wan Chai District Commander Jimmy Lee Siu-kin working as team manager.

Catering, Sports and Recreation Superintendent Eric Lee Ying-min and Senior Inspector Angela Kwok would also be assisting. The team hoped to better their whopping tally of 67 medals at the previous Police and Fire Games in Stockholm in 1999. Twenty of those were gold.

"A lot of organisation, planning and co-ordination is needed for this trip which is why four people are travelling with the team to ensure they get to where they need to be and perform at their best," Eric Lee said.

"The Force performed extremely well two years ago in Sweden, and I hope this year we can maintain or even better the performance."

The squad will be wearing the Force's new official tracksuit, now available at the Police Souvenir Shop.
