Hot shots hit ISSF grade

Force marksmen landed top prizes at the 44th Hong Kong Festival of Sport Shooting Championships at Kau Wah Keng Range on May 13, as they gear up to top international standards.

Weapons Training Sergeant Lee Siu-wah nabbed silver, bronze and silver again in the centre firing, rapid firing and standard events respectively, while Hong Kong Island Emergency Unit SGT Lau Tung-yuk took the bronze and silver in centre firing and rapid firing respectively. Kowloon East Emergency Unit Woman Police Constable Wong Tung-nei won bronze in the Ladies Sports Pistol event.

The successes came as five officers qualified as International Sport Shooting Federation (ISSF) marksmen and were training to represent Hong Kong at international competitions.

With assistance from the Hong Kong Shooting Association, they were being coached weekly by a trainer from the official Mainland national team in preparation for the upcoming 25th South East Asia Shooting Championships.

Chief Superintendent (Public Relations) Charles Wong Doon-yee hailed their success.

"Five officers have been officially selected to become ISSF shooting representatives for Hong Kong, which is a great honour."

The competition was organised by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, and supported by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to promote sporting lifestyles.
