Marine Region stormed home to victory in the 2001 MacDonald Cup Inter-Region Basketball Tournament on May 18.
The Mariners narrowly beat Kowloon West 68-60 in the hard-fought final at the Police Sports and Recreation Club, while Hong Kong Island just managed to overcome a tough onslaught from Kowloon East to take the second runner-up spot in the championship with a nail-biting 80-78 victory in overtime.
Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Douglas Lau Yuk-kuen presented the trophies to the teams and for the Leslie-Luscombe Cup Inter-District tournament held from January to March. Wan Chai District out-hooped 15 other teams to beat Marine Outer Waters 70-68 in the final. The Police Training School beat Hong Kong Island Traffic 81-61 to take the second runner-up spot.
